Caesarian Section or C section is a delivery operation to get the baby out of mother’s womb through surgical way. Caesarian operation is a safe and common surgery in the present times and is done when there are difficulties in traditional normal delivery or if either the mother or the child or both face risks. Caesarian deliveries can be planned in advance and are called elective Ceasarian surgery. Due to risks and complications, emergency Caesarian surgeries are also performed during labour.

Surgery
A Caesarian operation is planned earlier or as advised by the doctor besides emergency situations. Cuts are made by surgeons in abdomen and uterus and delivery baby is brought out. The surgery may take 20-30 minutes in case of planning. In case of emergency Caesarian procedure may take a few minutes when the incisions are made and baby is brought out.
There are several reasons why Caesarian deliveries have to be performed:
· Mother’s health problems and disorders including high blood pressure during pregnancy, diabetes, cardiac problems
· Problems in labour
· Problems with oxygen supply to the baby
· If the feet of the baby is coming out first (breech)
· Development problems in baby
· Pregnancy complications during the early stages
· There are several other reasons that the gynecologist may be able to detect
Pre-surgery
In case of advance planning or gynecologist’s recommendation, complete instructions should be followed including checkups for blood pressure, diabetes, blood group and heart issues. If caesarian surgery for pregnant women is planned pre-term for various reasons, baby’s lung maturity test will have to be conducted and steroid injections given as per requirement.

· Relax and maintain coolness
Post-surgery
· Stay at hospital may be there for two or three days depending on the condition of both mother and the baby
· Pain will be there and doctor will suggest relief
· Ceasarian surgery recovery is faster and walking or moving a bit will make it easier
· Kindly be in touch with your gynecologists for complications, clots and other issues
· Support your abdomen amply
· Take ample rest at home
· Avoid sex for a few weeks
